This discussion will help you understand the functional nature of gender and gender roles. To complete the discussion, please do the following:
Research a unique gender category from a culture other than your own (e.g., two-spirit, sworn virgin, Hijra, Wari, etc.).
Describe the gender using appropriate terms so that your classmates understand it clearly.
Compare the roles performed by the gender to traditional western male/female gender roles.
Predict how that gender would or would not fit within US culture.
